REFLECTION

From The Beginning

One of the first things children learn in Sunday School/Kids’ Church is to love one another. This is a basic tenant of Christianity but it’s not always easy. 

When life stops us in our tracks, we need to be reminded to keep walking in love. John doesn’t say sit or stand in love – he says walk which indicts forward movement. “I know the road can be rough but keep going. Keep going God’s way.”

And what does walking in truth and love bring? – Joy.

John’s joy is palpable. He’s excited the "children" are following the Father’s command to walk in love and I know what John means. One of my personal joys was teaching 3-year olds each Sunday morning. They would literally run and jump in the love of Christ.

Maybe sometimes we just need to go back to basics – to what we learned in the beginning – to love one another. That truth is the foundation of faith.

And on this 25th anniversary of a dark day in history, I hope you can find joy in knowing you are loved!

Side note: While writing this I kept thinking it needed to be longer. There’s got to be more to say, more words, right? But God said, “Nope, that’s it. You can end it there.” And so, I did.

PRAYER

Father,

Give us hearts like children. May we walk, run, and leap (if the body allows 😊) in the love of Christ. What a joy it is to share his truth by simply loving one another. Amen
