REFLECTION

He's the ONE
By Jennifer Jerrome
From start to finish, beginning to end there is only…
GOD
I seriously thought about stopping here.
What more is there to say?
The idea of God as the ONLY one was proclaimed from the Old Testament to the New, especially in Isaiah and Revelation:
Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord—with the first of them and with the last—I am he (Isaiah 41:4).
Listen to me, Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I am he; I am the first and I am the last (Isaiah 48:12).
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty (Rev. 1:8).
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last (Rev. 1:17).
To the angel of the church in Smyrna write: These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again (Rev. 2:8).
He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life (Rev. 21:6).
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Rev. 22:13).
No matter how you say it – first/last, Alpha/Omega, beginning/end, start/finish - there is NO ONE but Him. It’s really that simple.
So, what does the one God ask of his people?
To be witnesses to the truth. To proclaim in an age of idol worship, that there is no other God. This was true in 600 BC, just as much as it is in 2025. Times haven’t changed that much when it comes to idolatry. That’s why God needs witnesses today more than ever.
From our first breath to our last, He is with us. It’s HIM and only HIM.
PRAYER
Thank you Father, for your everlasting love. Just as Cory Asbury sings:
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.
From beginning till end - Amen

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JENNIFER JERROME
I have known I was a child of God from the beginning. I was baptized and raised in the Catholic church and began attending UALC about 18 years ago when my husband I were searching for a place to worship and serve as a family. UALC has helped shape our faith over the years. We have been through several seasons of life and the constant has been our faith and family.
