DAILY READING

REFLECTION

He is the Real Deal

By Elaine Pierce

My younger daughter looked so much like me, especially as a toddler, that strangers would approach us at the grocery store and say things like "it's very clear that's your daughter - she's a mini version of you!" It's funny, but as she grew up, she looked less and less like me and now her older sister often hears comments like "Oh, I can tell you're Elaine's daughter. You look just like her."

As I was reading these first four verses of the book of Hebrew, I was struck by how clear the author makes it that Jesus is everything that God is. He's not a 'mini me.' Take a look at verse 3:

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

God spoke through the prophets, and we know what happened to most of them - the people rejected their call to return to God and to serve him, not themselves. We know, too, that Jesus was rejected by the religious and political leaders of his day. He died on the cross, was buried.....and then, the unthinkable happened. He rose! Verse 3 continues: "he sits down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." He intercedes with us - yes, he paid the price for us.

Jesus was a prophet, but he was more than that. He came to free us from sin - not to tell us to try harder, but to tell us to give our burdens to him. He will lead the way, if only we will let him.

I'm happy that my children resemble me, but what is so much more important is how I reflect the Father, the One who gave me life and who longs for a relationship with me. What a joy it will be when we see him face to face, but in this time we have on earth, let's rejoice in all he has done and will do in and through us.

PRAYER

Lord, so often I get caught up in the day to day of living, and forget to stop and thank you for all you have done for me. Yes, the God of the Universe loves me! What a joy it is to serve you. Amen.

Oh, to be the spitting image of Jesus! That's a perfect goal.
