Beautiful Law
by Elaine Pierce
Psalm 93 is a beautiful psalm full of nature imagery, particularly focusing on the majesty of the Lord himself along with the majesty of the seas. Anyone who has ever been to the ocean can attest to the awe-inspiring beauty of the rolling ocean waves.

Did you notice verse 5, however?
"Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O Lord."
What is that doing in here? We're talking about the Lord robed in majesty, and we're extolling the power and might of the created world. And then we are looking at God's statutes, his laws, his word. Yes, God is mightier than the sea. He is creator, not creature. And above all else, let's remember that his statutes stand firm.
Several verses come to mind:
"Thy word is a light unto my feet and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)
"All scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
"Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4)
"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of God will stand forever." (Isaiah 40:8)
"Kings will come and go - remember not to put your trust in chariots or in horses, but only trust in the name of the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7) Oceans will rise and fall. We serve the only true God, and his word will endure forever.
PRAYER
Lord, your creation is awesome, and I am humbled by the ocean, the mountains, and all that you have made. Your word will last forever, and help me to cling to it and to trust only in you. Amen.
