God's House
By Elaine Pierce
I live in an old house. Our house was built 99 years ago - yes, it is an old house! We have only lived here a couple of months, but we have heard a lot of stories about the owners who lived here before the previous owners. They raised seven children in this house, and it was the center of neighborhood gatherings, mostly because the family was warm and welcoming. I don't know anything about the builder, but he or she built a sturdy house that survived the wear and tear of a large family. It seems that we bought a house that has a proud legacy, and it is our privilege to continue to provide hospitality to our friends and neighbors.
In today's passage, we see the word 'house' used eight times. Moses was faithful in all God's house. Jesus is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold onto our courage and the hope of which we boast.
As Christians, we understand God's house to be the church universal. [Speaking of the church, our church has recently undergone a major renovation. Please visit our Lytham Road campus if you haven't been there already. What a wonderful worship space for God's family! What a welcoming space for our guests, our members, and those who walk through our doors]. The book of Hebrews was written to Jewish Christians, and Moses was certainly held in high esteem by the Jews. He was a revered prophet, teacher, and leader. And yet, Jesus is worthy of greater honor than Moses. Jesus is the foundation of our faith, the builder of our house. He is worthy of all praise, all honor, all glory.
You all know the children's song that is based on Matthew 7:24-27 (The wise man built his house upon the rock, etc., etc.). My old home was built to last. Yes, the floors creak a bit, but many changes have been made over the years to ensure that it will last another 100 years. Jesus bids us to come and worship him. He is the way, the truth and the life. The house that he has built will never be destroyed. "I rejoiced when they said to me, "Let us go t the house of the Lord"" Psalm 122:1
PRAYER
Thank you, Lord, for building a house that will last. When we are buffeted by doubts and fears, helps us to come to you for hope, for peace, for truth. Your house is all we need. Amen.

Love old houses and barns and how they were constructed to withstand the elements. Great analogy!
