Follow the Lamb

By Diane Ward

(Setting the Scene for Hebrews 13:7-8)

Paul admonishes Timothy that there will be a time much like today; a time will come when men will not endure sound doctrine. According to their own desires they will turn their ears away from the truth and believe lies. Be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

“Be friendly with men of honor and stiff with rascals.” C.S Lewis

I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as the scene is set in a humble meeting room within a small house in the city of Jerusalem. The room is dimly lit by oil lamps, casting a warm glow on the faces of the believers gathered there. The air is filled with the scent of incense burning in the corner, creating an atmosphere of reverence and devotion.

Among those present are the early Christian leaders, including Barnabas, Silas, and Timothy, who have traveled from afar to encourage and strengthen the believers in Jerusalem. They sit on simple wooden benches, their faces reflecting the hardships and joys of their journeys in spreading the gospel. The room is filled with a diverse group of believers, from young converts to seasoned elders, all eager to learn and grow in their faith.

As the meeting begins, one of the elders stands and begins to speak, reminding the congregation of the faithfulness of their past leaders who have since passed away. He recalls their teachings and examples, urging the believers to imitate their faith. The room is filled with a sense of unity and purpose as they reflect on the unchanging nature of Jesus Christ. “Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever!” (Hebrews 13:7-8)

I am reminding you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and a sound mind. Do not be afraid or ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner. For this reason, I suffer these things as I know who I have believed, and I am persuaded He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

Follow the Lamb! (Revelation 14:4)

PRAYER

Dear Lord, make us followers of the Word and not just hearers. Give us a passion for You and have the Holy Spirit turn and strengthen our hearts for you. You are the all in all, the alpha and the Omega. We have nothing else without you.

I felt as if I were there and was able to understand the verse so much more because of your devotional. Thank you!

Love your description of the room! I could almost smell the incense! I wanted to be there in that room. Beautiful message.
