REFLECTION

Your Love is Wealth

By Judy Webb

There are those who don’t believe in evil spirits. They don’t believe that Satan is real and that he prowls the earth looking for someone to consume. “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8 NIV) Satan knows his time is limited so he is always on the hunt. We find these supporting words in Job 1:7, “The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”

As time rolls and we get older, some things stand out more each day. New questions arise to make us face reality. Questions like: have I saved enough to retire in comfort the rest of my days? Am I healthy enough to enjoy life to the fullest? Do I have faith that will grant me entrance into eternity?

Listen to this, all you people! Pay attention, everyone in the world! High and low, rich and poor—listen!

For my words are wise, and my thoughts are filled with insight.

(Psalm 49:1-3 NLT)

At this point in life I must consider whether I view a plump bank account as all the security I need for survival. Is my faith in my finances uppermost in mind? I hate to admit it, but at times it seems that way. If the fear of outliving my money wakes me at night, something is out of whack. We want to retire once. When we feel we can survive our remaining days without worry. What’s wrong with this picture? I am paused to ask, where is my faith? Do I believe God wants the best for me, that He is my wealth, my provision and my only need in life? Do I believe that he will take care of me, that He will provide my daily bread? Trust and Obey.

If you don’t know God, you have nothing. “But as for me, God will redeem my life. He will snatch me from the power of the grave.” (Psalm 49:15 NLT)

PRAYER

Dear Jesus,

Give me the faith I need to follow you all the way to eternity. Show me how Your love will provide all I need for today and for tomorrow. Wrap your protective arms around me and give me peace as I journey to my true Home. Amen.

We were having this conversation just this morning. “Will we outlive our finances”? Some days it’s deep in my mind others I have complete confidence God will provide. Thank you for your reminder. God is always in every detail of our lives.
