DAILY READING

REFLECTION

He Has Shown You What Is Good

By Beth Voltmann

Pause for a moment today as you read, and allow yourself to be amazed by God.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the LORD require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy

and to walk humbly with your God.”

(Micah 6:8)

These inspired words were given to Micah over 700 years before the birth of Christ. Some translations interpret the Hebrew to read that God has “told” us what is good and other interpretations suggest that God has “shown” us.

It astounds me how timeless God’s Word is.

God told his people to seek justice, mercy, and humility through the leaders and prophets of the Old Testament...

But then...the Father sent his only Son, Jesus, to show us how to live a godly life.

Does he desire a specific offering from us? No. He sent his only Son to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Instead, he simply asks believers to trust and obey - to walk as Jesus walked. This is why Jesus left his Holy Spirit with us – to give us the strength to follow the will of God.

“If you love me, keep my commands.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate

to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth.”

(John 14:15-17)

God loves us and “has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (2 Pet 1:3)

Today, turn your heart to follow God: read his Word, follow the example of  Jesus, and trust the Holy Spirit to help you.

·      Act justly – “Maintain justice and do what is right.” (Isaiah 56:1)

·      Love mercy – “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)

·      Walk humbly with your God – “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” (1 Peter 5:6)

PRAYER

Lord,

Thank you for your goodness and your love. You not only told us how to live as your holy people, but you sent your only Son to show us. May we walk In a manner pleasing to you as we follow Jesus. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Amen.

What a treat to see this passage as today's message. It is my "go to" and "how to" daily guide. A gift from God with all the plenty of this holiday season.

Thank-you for this beautiful devotion. My prayer is often 'Lord, what do you want me to do?' This passage sums it up perfectly!
