REFLECTION

There Is No Other

By Beth Voltmann

Does it ever seem as if God is unaware of what is going on in your life? Does it feel as if he has been hiding himself? Perhaps you, like Job, have had some “tall Sabeans” (v. 14) ruining your existence, overshadowing your joy, causing fear or discouragement. (See Job 1:13-15)

Many have endured such seasons, but Isaiah reaches out through the pages of prophecy to reassure us of the character of God – his presence, his movements, his plans, and his promises. In essence, Isaiah whispers, “Just wait a while longer. God sees...he hears...he knows...he will act.”

God is faithful – his Word is true – and his promises are eternal.

“I have not spoken in secret,

from somewhere in a land of darkness;

I have not said to Jacob’s descendants,

‘Seek me in vain.’

I, the LORD, speak the truth;

I declare what is right.”

(Isaiah 45:19)

When we seek him, he will be found by us!

Not only that, but Isaiah also assures us in the midst of our troubles:

 “Surely God is with you, and there is no other,

There is no other god.” (v. 14)

“I am the LORD, and there is no other.” (v. 18)

Isaiah didn’t just state it once, but three times in this passage. God is God and there is no other! No person, no idol, no ruler, no power, no other god can take his place. God is sovereign and just. He is watching over his people. He is not hiding. He is not weak. He is merciful and full of grace and his promise of restoration is for all those who seek to follow him, past to present, Jew and Gentile, across time. Our everlasting God is on his throne.

....Through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

(Ephesians 3:6)

PRAYER

Lord God, we pray to exalt your most Holy name, seek you with our whole heart, and trust in your perfect promises. What a privilege it is to live as witnesses to the past, on this side of the cross. Through Jesus you ushered in the beginning of our restoration. We believe, and we wait with eager expectation!

Salvation is found in no one else,

For there is no other name under heaven

given to mankind by which

we must be saved.

(Acts 4:12)
