REFLECTION
Our Holy God
By Beth Voltmann
We are living in a world that is still under the influence of the devil - a liar and a thief. His goal is to flip the script on God – to entice us to do and believe the very opposite of what God desires for us.
The warning Isaiah gave to sinners in the past is sobering even in our current day. It certainly grabs my attention as I read his cries of “woe”.
Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
Who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
Who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
(Isaiah 5:23)
Is evil winning?
Although Satan may be doing his best to turn the tables, believers can rest assured that God is in control.
But the LORD Almighty will be exalted by his justice,
And the holy God will be proved holy by his righteous acts.
(Isaiah 5:16)
Is this God that we follow all good? all loving? all forgiving? Yes.
Is he all holy? all righteous? all just? Yes.
He loves his children dearly - he cannot and will not tolerate evil, but will confront it with his wrath.
I’d like to share a portion of a John Stott quote from my current WOW Bible study. These words provide insight into God’s character:
“We need, I think, to be more grateful to God for his wrath, and to worship him that he always reacts to evil in the same unchanging, predictable, uncompromising way because his righteousness is perfect. Without his moral consistency we could enjoy no peace.”
John Stott

May we praise our Holy God for his love and his justice. When Jesus died on the cross in our place, he crushed the head of the enemy. He now sits at the right hand of God with his enemies as his footstool. Someday soon, our KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS will come to “tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty” and to usher in God’s holy and perfect Kingdom. (Revelation 19:15-16)
GLORY, GLORY, HALLELUJAH!
PRAYER
Father God, how we long for a world that is free of evil. Help us to trust in your perfect love and righteousness and to keep our hope fixed on Jesus. He is our Savior, our King, and our perfect Peace. Amen.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

BETH VOLTMANN
After moving to Ohio in 1997 with my husband and four children, I developed a hunger for God’s Word through adult teaching and women’s Bible study at UALC. My passion is to help others understand Scripture so that they may grow in their desire for more of God and experience the new life offered to us through Christ Jesus.
The quote from John Stott is powerful.
Great message. The scripture is real. I see it everyday!
Thank you, Beth. These were difficult verses for me to understand and now I've got it! God is using you!
