REFLECTION
Chosen by Love
by Judy Webb
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” (Deuteronomy 7:6)
Did you catch that! “The Lord has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth”. Do you feel special yet? These words were spoken by Moses to the nation of Israel. God didn’t choose them because of their great number, but because of His love for them.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9) So, for those of us who think the Deuteronomy verse was meant only for the Israelites, 1 Peter confirms that Believers are also chosen. “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” (Ephesians 1:4)
Too often, we go through life feeling average, not very important in the grand scheme of things. We don’t see how our life could make an impact on anyone else. We are blind to the fact that God has chosen to love us. Now, I know this sounds trite and way too easy to say/write, but think about it. Think about your life and the many times that God acted on your behalf, intervened so that you were not hurt, pulled you out of the path of danger and covered you with His Mighty Wings.
Some of you may realize that you could fill a book with stories of God’s protection and rescue. I know I could. When I consider my life and recognize God's hand in my daily life, I am humbled as well as stunned by just how special, how chosen I am. He not only chose me, he gifted me in a way that allows me to share this fact with you. How about you? Take a long look and pray for God to show you just how special you are to Him. Now tell someone else about this.
Dear Jesus, when we feel ordinary and unimportant, remind us how much you love us. Help us to also see how special and important those around us are to You. Teach us to see each other through Your eyes, so we will love as we never loved before.
