REFLECTION

The Throne is Occupied!

By Judy Webb

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” (Isaiah 6:1 ESV)

After reading about King Uzziah, we find significance in the words, “In the year King Uzziah died…” It seems Uzziah had been king for 52 years and was the only leader the people of this nation had known. He was considered one of the good kings. His death caused the people to question, ‘What now?’

This verse in Isaiah 6 is meant to assure the people that though King Uzziah was no longer on the throne, God most certainly was! We are given a glimpse of God seated on a throne with angelic beings circling above. Though the throne on earth is vacant, the throne in heaven is occupied and always will be. This is Isaiah’s calling into ministry. Isaiah’s encounter with God caused him to see his unworthiness and he became willing to serve his God as God saw fit to use him. He served as God’s messenger to Judah during the times of four of her kings. (Isaiah 1:1)

We all have ‘ministry’ – whether to family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and some of us are called to fulltime Christian service. Has there been a time in life when you questioned if you were missing something? Did you ever wonder if what your are doing is your true calling, or your God given purpose? It is always wise to contemplate questions such as these as who knows what God might be stirring up? There could be a grand adventure waiting on the other side of this question. Be bold and prepare to step out when it seems right to do so. Pray for God’s timing and go for it!

Consider all you may be going through in your life today. Can you see that God is still on His throne in Heaven, that is he here for us now and he loves us deeply?

PRAYER

Lord,

Thank you that no matter how difficult life gets, You are still on the throne! And you always will be. Help us take great comfort in this and act accordingly.

I ask that question frequently...why am I here? What is my purpose. I needed this message...I'm not alone.

Thanks for pointing out the timing of these words- how kind of our God to assure us of His presence when the earthly rulers have moved on or are absent...and to assure us that He will take our guilt away. And to be part of how the whole earth is full of His glory by how we reflect His glory.
