REFLECTION

Created to Soar

“You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles wings and brought you to myself.” (Exodus 19:4)

It has been 3 months since the trip from slavery and the walk through the Red Sea and into freedom; and already they are forgetting God’s work on their behalf. They are already complaining, making questionable choices, as though they have no hope.

Many are fascinated by the Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest Cam. This is a live feed of an eagle’s next, where we can watch eagle eggs hatch. This year there are two eaglets: Jackie and Shadow. Why the interest in these birds? For many, eagles represent strength and beauty. they symbolize everything good in our country and an awesome vision of patriotism. They are often referred to in Scripture as symbols of hope and goodness.

Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. The will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”

This picture of pure and persistent faith, as we trudge through life, helps us envision a bright and glorious tomorrow and a reminder of all that God has done for the Israelites and for us too. “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles wings…” (Exodus 19:4) Take a moment here to recall a time in your life when God rescued you from whatever enslaved you. Perhaps it was a dangerous relationship, a volatile situation, or a terminal illness. He plucked you from the doorway to death or destruction and allowed you to soar above it all. Like the Eagles.

For most Christians, the eagle symbolizes a way of life only God could provide. A life to be lived high above the earthly trials and traps; a life with Jesus as Savior and protector, guarding and guiding our flight patterns.

PRAYER

Father,

The picture of eagles flying high above the mountain peaks, away from all danger and enemies provides a real sense of safety. We know we are safe in Your arms, in Your presence and with Your Son. Give us wings like eagles to soar about the turmoil and pain of this world as we get a glimpse from way up high, of our future home with You. Amen.
