REFLECTION

Wait for It...

By Judy Webb

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. (Revelation 21:1 ESV)

At the dawn of creation there was a rebellion in the heavens. Satan and his army coveted God’s throne and began to battle for it. The evil angels were soon cast out of God’s presence, thrown down to the earth, to take their place among the lowly.

While on earth, they began to wreak havoc. Satan encountered a woman who made a mistake of listening to his wicked words and we know the rest of that story. Following Adam and Eve’s rebellion there began a new era, a different sort of life on earth was birthed. Because of sin, there now exists a world of deception, disease, and deadly consequences.  Sorrow, sadness, and evil covered the earth changing everything from perfect to sin filled. Gone were peace and comfortable living.

Just as the angels were jealous and desired more, humans also weren’t satisfied and thus were easily led astray by Satan. Aren’t we, too? We want so much more than we deserve, more than we need. We are selfish beings who take and seldom give back.

Think about it, when this world comes to an end we who believe will be with God. We will be made perfect; we will be like Christ. Isn’t that what Adam and Eve were seeking all along, a deep and personal relationship with God? Think of your wildest dream of a perfect life and multiply it a million times over.  The new heaven and the new earth will be more than a dream, it will be our new reality, just as the Bible tells us.

God is making all things new. “And nothing, neither death nor life, angel nor demons…not any powers…nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ my Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Just wait: When this world ceases to exist, we will be with God; We will be made perfect. We will be like Christ.  God has a place for every one of His people.

PRAYER

God, what a great day that will be; when You make all things new. Give us a glimpse of that new and perfect world every time we open our Bibles. Help us to see with eyes that truly grasp the greatness of that gift of newness. Thank you, Lord, for all you do and have done for us, Your sinful children. Amen.
