God's Grace, Greater Than Adam's Sin

By Judy Webb

Romans 5:18 (MSG)

Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life!

Too many times we point to Adam and Eve and declare, "It is all their fault!"  Countless times we look at their disobedience, their selfish behavior as the reason we are so unhappy, or so uncomfortable, or so distraught. Placing the blame for our evil hearts on our first ancestors is not only ridiculous, but unfair.

The truth is, in their place, we might have acted in the same way; that is a sobering thought. Why would we think today, that our heart's motives would have been purer than Eve's? What makes us any better than she?  Were we in Eve's shoes (so to speak), we most likely would have behaved in the same selfish fashion.

The comfort in all this is, nothing would have changed the next steps. No matter if it were Adam, Eve, or me, or you, Jesus would still come into the world to redeem the sin. God's love for us knows no bounds and it isn't dependent on how we act. God loves us with an everlasting love.

The love Jesus has for us is the love He expects us to show others. We are to extend grace and also to pursue those who don't yet know Him. We are to share all we have, including our faith and salvation with those who are still blind to Jesus' love  and grace.

“Just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people – because all sinned.” (v.12 NIV)

The good news is God’s grace is greater than Adam’s sin. One man brought sin and death; one man brought grace and life. Will we choose Adam or Jesus?

PRAYER

Dear Jesus, We have much to be grateful for during this Lenten season. It is in this season, we see signs of life -- new life in You. Come Holy Spirit and fill us with the knowledge that You have overcome our sin-filled life. You have redeemed us and saved us for eternity with you. What a wonderful thing! Thank you. Amen.
