REFLECTION

A Ripple Effect

by Judy Webb

21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, 26 for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared. (Proverbs 3:21-26)

These words touched me. I have been so concerned about what is happening in our world, but at a loss as to what I could do about it. Are you thinking the same things? Are you trying to understand how one person (you) can have an impact or the ability to turn the world and its sinful ways around?

I am coming to the realization that I cannot do this alone, nor can you. But God can, and it begins with me and you. One day at a time, one personal course correction per day, one kind thought, or action everyday will soon mount up. As they pile up in your little corner of the world, things will change. But only God can cause the changes we need to get back to where He wants us to be.

There was a lot of talk a couple of years back about the silent majority and how if they stood up and took some necessary steps, they could right many wrongs. I am starting to think differently. Perhaps there needs to be a more vocal contingent, a contingent of Christians who call upon Jesus every minute of each day, pleading for help, direction, and wisdom.

Read this same lines text in the MSG translation and maybe you will feel empowered, and gain a sense of, “I can do this.” Actually, let us make this our prayer today.

PRAYER PRACTICE

“Dear friend, guard Clear Thinking and Common Sense with your life; don't for a minute lose sight of them. They'll keep your soul alive and well, they'll keep you fit and attractive. You'll travel safely, you'll neither tire nor trip. You'll take afternoon naps without a worry; you'll enjoy a good night's sleep. No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday's just around the corner, Because GOD will be right there with you; he'll keep you safe and sound." (Proverbs 3:21-26 MSG)
