PSALM 27

REFLECTION

David and the Messenger

We love David with a personal knowing. We go to the Psalms for respite, for joy and certainty. The thread that holds everything together is David’s trust in God. David lives in the paradox of forgiven sin and a world of suffering. Perhaps that is why his tears touch us so deeply.

We hold on to this comforting verse over and over! (David, “I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:13-14

Poetry was much of my younger life. I was drawn to “The Messenger” from Celtic Daily Prayer. “ The Messenger said to me in a dream there is a time for mourning, and that time has passed. You have forgotten much and it has been forgiven you, as all is forgiven to those who love. Multitudes have sorrowed before you, and multitudes will sorrow after you, but sorrow is in vain and only One can heal your sorrow. To the messenger I cried out, my heart is only human!”

PRAYER

Give us this day, this time Lord to meet with David in prayer as he poured out his heart. David was a musician, a poet, an author and a man after God’s own heart.
