REFLECTION
It's Moving Day
by Judy Webb
"This is what God had in mind all along: the blessing He gave to Abraham might extend to all nations through the Anointed One, Jesus; and we are the beneficiaries of this promise of the Spirit that come only through faith." (Galatians 3:14 VOICE)
God had promised to bless Abraham and to bless all the world through him. The blessing of Abraham is really salvation by grace through faith. (Genesis 12:3) The story of Abraham has always inspired me. To think, God called Abram to leave all he knew and travel to a land He would show him...and Abraham did it! He packed up his family, said goodbye to friends and set off to see what God had planned.
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing."
This is faith in action. How many of us would be willing to pack up everything and set out to a land we have never seen. No home waiting, no job, and everything is unfamiliar. If you have ever moved before, you know it is a major undertaking; not to mention life changing. How does one get the kind of faith Abraham had? God promised to bless him and to make him into a blessing.
As I have been studying this text, I realize how potent and powerful is faith. Without faith we will not see God. Without faith we will not receive the Holy Spirit. We are the beneficiaries of this promise of the Spirit that comes only through faith.
"Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because 'the righteous will live by faith." (Galatians 3:11) The conclusion therefore is that God's promise of blessing to the Gentiles is through Christ, by faith, and not by law-keeping. "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." (Hebrews 11:8)
I beg you Lord, build and fortify my faith. Show me where I need to be stronger and to trust you for all things. If there is an area where I am not stepping out in faith, please reveal this to me and show me the way.
