True and Awesome Power of God
by Judy Webb
As I studied Psalm 29 it took a bit of reading for me to grasp the message. It was still foggy to me, so, I took a different approach. I turned to BibleGateway.com and I listened to this psalm being read aloud, and in numerous versions. This helped me hear what God had to say. In an era when God’s magnificence is downplayed, if not denied, by most of the world, Psalm 29 reminds us just how relevant and glorious is our God.
Psalm 29 read in the Message version, provides a clear word of truth for me. Bravo, God, bravo! Gods and all angels shout, “Encore!” In awe before the glory, in awe before God’s visible power. Stand at attention! Dress your best to honor him!” (Psalm 29:1) The verses which follow in the Message exclaim the exciting power and presence of our God.
How often do I barely give a second thought to the miracles and wonders all around me? How many times do I take for granted how God saved me from the slimy pit, from the mud and mire of my former life. It took me to hear out loud the truth that He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand, (Psalm 40:3 NIV) to appreciate this Psalm in a new way.
Can you give testimony to the time God reached down from heaven and pulled you from the muck and the mire of your life, setting you down firmly upon the Rock of Salvation? Will you tell others of this experience by shouting, “Bravo! Bravo!” and telling all who will listen how...
God makes his people strong. God gives his people peace. (Psalm 29:11 MSG)
PRAYER
Dear Jesus, never let us forget all you have done for us. Help us remember everyday, you love and grace which never ends. Forgive us when we take for granted all that you are. Amen.
