REFLECTION

More Miraculous Healings

by David Thompson

Once again, in this passage we see Jesus being questioned. However this time it was by disciples of John the Baptist. Jesus answered well, and about the time the passage was going to tell of the reaction to His response, a synagogue leader came to Jesus with a request. His daughter had died. He wanted Jesus to come to his home and lay hands on the girl. On Jesus' way, a woman that had been bleeding for twelve years came up and touched His cloak. She was healed and so was the little girl who had died.

Can you imagine what an uproar Jesus caused in Israel and surrounding areas. His miraculous works convinced people to follow Him and convinced the Pharisees to fear and hate Him more. I find it interesting that people could have such diverse opinions.

It reminds me of one other happening in my life that gives me a glimpse into what Jesus and the people felt. When I was in my early thirties, my daughter got really sick from having a medical procedure. She reacted to the anesthetic in a bad way. To make a long story short, she ended up in a coma with a warning from the doctors that her heart had stopped and no oxygen had gotten to her brain for about four minutes. We were made to believe that even if she came out of the coma, that she might not be the same. We had prayers from all over the US and Canada for her recovery, but once again, my uncle entered the picture. He had me hold my hand up to the ICU window of my daughter's room as he prayed for her healing. When he had finished, nothing seemed to be different. However, as we went to sleep on the hospital couches that night we couldn't have known what was about to happen. The next morning, she came out of the coma and spoke to us for the first time in five days. By later in the day, she was reading to us and by all appearances, she seemed just fine. Praise the Lord... My daughter recovered fully from that awful happening and has had no ill effects from it to this day.

Like the people of Israel, I was thankful to the Lord and to my uncle for intervening and no matter what anyone could tell me, God answers prayer.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank you for your Word where we can see your miraculous works. Thank you for being the same yesterday, today and forever. I pray for a continuing belief in the power of prayer and hope that each person reading this account would be blessed by it and if You will it, could see your healing power first hand. In your Holy name, Amen and Amen!
