REFLECTION

Stay in Focus

by Judy Webb

Did you notice the date at the top of this post? December 26, so, really, Christmas is over already. In most cases, the tree is still up and the messy ribbons and wrapping still clutter the floor in front of the tree. But the main event is all over with. Or is it? Maybe, this is the beginning of something. Advent is finished, but Jesus is still with us. Christmas day was the culmination of our time of preparation and anticipation. Now we can embrace the miracle. Jesus the Christ is our reality.

An angel told us so and this angel is still proclaiming God’s Son as our Savior. Even His name means salvation. The name Jesus has been declared over and over during the days leading up to Christmas. Jesus the Messiah is the name that causes us to bow down in adoration. Jesus; Prophet, Priest, and King. Jesus as Prophet proclaims our need to repent, as Priest, He acts as mediator, and as King, He is a figure of supreme authority.

I have discerned my word of 2025 – FOCUS. This word is defined as a center of activity, attraction, or attention; a point of concentration or emphasis.

Given this definition I believe focus is a fitting word to concentrate on in the new year. When my focus is on Jesus and His Word, the blur of life becomes clear. When I focus on Jesus I discover truth and love and grace. When I focus on Jesus and not allow myself to be distracted by the noise of this world, I can see a bright future and I see the path laid out before me. I recognize what my next step should be when caring for my neighbors, or showing God’s goodness to one who has never seen it before.

Let us consider pondering that precious name in the months to come. And may we focus on Jesus each day of 2025.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus,

What a beautiful name, and what a wonderful meaning. You are Savior, priest, prophet, and king all rolled into one. The Anointed One, forever my focus.
