All Creation Rejoices
by Mary Alice McGinnis
Have you ever picked up a handful of sand and examined it closely?
Have you ever looked closely at the different textures and hues of the bark of trees? Or what about the inside of a flower?
Has it ever caused you to ask, who brought all of it into existence? Or does it cause you to lift up your heart in praise?
In today’s reading, King David tells us that all of nature is rejoicing!
Why?
1) Because creation knows it’s Creator King!
“Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns!’”
Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
The Lord God did not just create all, He also sustains it all. He causes the sun to rise each morning and then set in the evening. He sets the rhythms of the seasons, the gravitational pull of the moon and the tides, the precise distance of the earth from the sun.
No wonder even the heavens and earth rejoice – they know He is ALL powerful and good beyond comprehension!
2) Creation also rejoices because the Lord (the Creator King) comes to judge the earth!
“Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth.”
For the oppressed and brokenhearted, for those who evil has tried to destroy, this is indeed good news!!! Our invincible God, the King of Glory, stands as the Righteous One who rules with perfect justice and equity. He is the One who knows all and sees all. Nothing escapes His sight. He will declare His verdict against all wickedness and in His righteousness, He will vindicate all who are oppressed, and He WILL make all things right!
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth." (Romans 1:18)
For the guilty, this does not sound like good news. After all, who wants to stand before an Almighty, all knowing, perfectly just judge IF YOU ARE GUILTY!
God must act justly and judge sin, otherwise God would not be God.
Here is the ultimate GOOD NEWS! Jesus was born – God Himself, the Creator of ALL, became incarnate.
“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.” (1 Timothy 1:15)
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Jesus came to take upon Himself the full wrath of God’s righteous judgement. He did what we could not do and has in turn given us what we don’t deserve.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
Now that is reason to REJOICE!
PRAYER PRACTICE
Bring your heart in prayerful praise to Your Creator and Savior through the words of this song today.
In Christ alone who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live
