REFLECTION
The Lord Has Spoken
By Beth Voltmann
There is such comfort in knowing that Yahweh has spoken - we can trust his Word. Let us exult and praise him for his perfect faithfulness and for the wonderful things that he has done - things planned long ago.
As I write this devotional, I am in Texas with a large group of family members who have gathered for my mother-in-law’s funeral. Though saddened by our recent loss, we can celebrate her life knowing that she is with God because He is true to his Word and to His children. His voice and his promises echo through the ages right up to our current generation.

This season of Advent, paired with our family’s personal loss, causes me to pause and reflect. The prophecy of Isaiah resounds through the life of our Savior who took on flesh. God’s prophetic promises of the past have been fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. Listen with an open heart as the Old Covenant is echoed in the New:
The LORD has spoken. (Isaiah 25:8)
...In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things. (Hebrews 1:2)
~ ~ ~
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given... (Isaiah 9:6)
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
~ ~ ~
You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. (Isaiah 25:4)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
~ ~ ~
The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. (Isaiah 25:8)
“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
~ ~ ~
Whether past, present or future, God’s prophesies will be fulfilled. His promises ring out to the very end. This is our hope and confidence. The Lord has spoken and we can rejoice!
“Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us.”
(Isaiah 25:9)
PRAYER
Father,
The gift of salvation wrapped in a little babe.
The Word spoken, a Messiah given.
A Holy sacrifice offered in our place.
The Light of the world risen - death swallowed forever - disgrace removed.
We rejoice in your salvation!
Amen.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

BETH VOLTMANN
After moving to Ohio in 1997 with my husband and four children, I developed a hunger for God’s Word through adult teaching and women’s Bible study at UALC. My passion is to help others understand Scripture so that they may grow in their desire for more of God and experience the new life offered to us through Christ Jesus.
As I read the words I can hear your gentle voice filled with truth and faith. You have a gentle way to share your complete faith.
Beth, I love the way the New Testament is hidden in the old and the new fulfills those ancient writings. Thanks for your beautiful writing and for sharing your hope and trust in God's promises at such a difficult time for your family. ❤️
Excellent use of your words and God's Word. Thank you for a devotional that will keep me thinking about it throughout the day.
