DAILY READING

REFLECTION

Firm, Steadfast, and Faithful

by Judy Webb

“Therefore…stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord…” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Like many of you, I start my day with a cup of coffee, my Bible, and my journal. Then I am ready to begin telling God my worries, prayer concerns, and often questions. Sometimes I can sense that God wants to talk to me, so I close my eyes or maybe focus on a scripture text, and wait…

Once quiet, sometimes the scripture I have been reading becomes clear to me. I even find answers to questions I didn’t know I had. God used verse 58 above to guide this time of prayer and listening with three thoughts:

Stand firm: “hold firmly to the word I preached to you.” (1 Cor. 15:2)

Let nothing move you: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Matt 26:41)

Always give yourself fully: “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them." (Hebrews 6:10)

As you pray, think about your daily work and how verse 58 might help you rethink your attitude. I know an attitude adjustment is often needed when I do this. Whether the work mentioned is my occupation, or a ministry. Ask God to help you work each day for His glory and know that what you do is never in vain.

Remember, (as the Voice version puts it) “…stay firmly planted – be unshakeable – do many good works in the name of God, and know that all your labor is not for nothing when it is for God.”

“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done." (Revelation 22:12)

PRAYER

Jesus, You know the future and you know what we may face this week. Give us the strength to stand firm and always look to you for answers. Keep us steadfast and focused on you and the Truth.
