Titus 3:5-8

Trustworthy and True

"...he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Notes from Titus 3: This is all trustworthy and true

1. He saved us (John 3:16)

2. He is merciful (Hebrews 4:16)

3. We are cleansed through baptism (1 Peter 3:21)

4. The Holy Spirit renews our minds (Romans 12:2)

5. We are justified by grace (Ephesians 3:24)

6. We are heirs with hope of eternal life (Titus 1:2)

7. We are to devote ourselves to doing good (Galatians 6:9)

8. These are excellent things and profitable for everyone (Philippians 4:8)

How often do we read articles of current events and believe what we read without questioning? Could you ever say with total conviction, "These words are trustworthy and true"? Doubtful. In fact we may have become jaded by all the lies Satan perpetrates on us. Actually, deception is what sells news magazines and generates 'clicks' and 'likes' and 'shares'. The more blatant and unbelievable the words, the more we seem to be drawn to them.

There was a day not too long ago when anyone who embraced a conspiracy theory was considered off the wall in their thinking. Not so any more. The only place we can read and believe that words are trustworthy and true is in Scripture. The eight points above, from Titus 3 are supported by others scriptures. If you try this yourself you are sure to find even more support for this text.

PRAYER

Dear Lord,

Give us discerning hearts and minds. Convict our Spirit to search out truth and let us be seekers of this truth. How different our world will be when you finally return and replace our counterfeit beliefs with all that is trustworthy and true. Amen.
