DAILY READING

REFLECTION

Truth is Still Truth

By Judy Webb

As we begin reading from Ezekiel we learn that he is among those carried off by the Babylonians to remain in captivity for years. As we pick up the story, Ezekiel had just witnessed a vision. God called him to speak boldly. And whether they listen or fail to listen—for they are a rebellious people—they will know that a prophet has been among them. “ (v.5)

Whether those listening take the words to heart or not doesn’t change the truth of the message. Truth is still truth.

Ezekiel was 30 years old at the start of his ministry -- as was John the Baptist, and Jesus. God sent Ezekiel with His Spirit and words to Israel’s people who were also in captivity. God still was working in their lives even though their lives were uprooted. They were moved from their homeland to a distant and unfamiliar place, and they were expected to make it a home for them and their families. Ezekiel’s ministry lasted 23 years and he died in captivity.

This overall message condemns Israel’s faithlessness and proclaims a message of renewal and hope for Israel in which God will make Israel a light to the nations. They will be held in captivity for 70 years, so they need a prophet to speak into their lives, to show them the errors of their ways. To show the Love of God and the hope we have because of that love. We learn from this encounter that If God has called you to do a certain work, He’ll give you the power to do it. Even if you are in prison.

This reminds me of what we know as Kairos Prison Ministry. Many who participate in this ministry have had a timely awakening of their faith and are called to share with others. Especially those who desperately need revival and renewal in order to go on with life.

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season.” (2 Timothy 4:2)

PRAYER

Father,

Help us always to see the Truth at all times. This world is filled with untruth, but we know Your Word is just the opposite. Reveal to us the true way to live, the true way to speak, and give us Your truth everyday. Amen.
