Hold On
By Jennifer Jerrome
Oh ye of little strength, hold on – hold on to your crown. You are a child of the Most High King. If you listen to what the Spirit says, you will keep your crown in this life and into the next.
Right now, I’m feeling a little like the Church in Philadelphia, lacking strength yet trying to keep His command to endure patiently. As trials surround me I pray, “Lord give me ears to hear.” Now is the time of the Spirit. In the beginning there was God and when he deemed it appropriate, He sent his Son and after the Resurrection and Ascension came the era of the Spirit. “Whoever has ears let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (v. 13).
An open door has been placed before us just as it was for the Church in Philadelphia. Only Christ has the key. He sees us and knows who we are – his children. He knows our strengths and weaknesses. Being in relationship with him gives us insights into our own identities and instructs us how to proudly bear the name he has written on our hearts.
Today I may be staring at a cloudy sky, but like Ohio weather, I know the sun will shine again and warm my body and mind. And in turn, my spirit will sing His praises.

PRAYER
Lord, may I be like the Church in Philadelphia and hold tight to my crown even when I am weak. Keep my ears open to hear what the Spirit says. And may I patiently endure whatever comes my way knowing at all times that I am seen, I am loved, and I am protected by my God. Amen

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JENNIFER JERROME
I have known I was a child of God from the beginning. I was baptized and raised in the Catholic church and began attending UALC about 18 years ago when my husband I were searching for a place to worship and serve as a family. UALC has helped shape our faith over the years. We have been through several seasons of life and the constant has been our faith and family.
I love this! Your opening sentence caught my eye..."hold on to your crown. " Each time I fall short I must remember this. I like the visual it gives me and want to practice holding on. Thank you.
I love this prayer!
