About the event
Why We're Going to West Virginia
In late July, storms dropped as much as seven inches of rain on Lewis County, West Virginia in just a few hours. Homes and businesses in Weston and the surrounding area flooded fast. Families lost cars, furniture, floors, and in some cases entire houses. The water has receded, but the damage has not gone away. Many of the people affected don't have the money, the tools, or the extra hands to repair what the flood destroyed.
This is exactly the kind of need our church exists to step into. Jesus didn't wait for people to come to Him with their needs already sorted out. He went to them, in their homes and in their mess, and He served. Sending a team to West Virginia is one concrete way we can do the same: show up, work hard, and let our hands be an answer to someone's prayer for help.
Trip Details
Dates: October 3–8
Location: Lewis County, West Virginia (Weston area flood recovery)
Work: Repairing flood-damaged homes alongside homeowners, tasks may include drywall, flooring, mucking out, and general rebuild labor. No need to bring tools if you don’t have them, but you can bring them if you do.
Accommodations: Primitive, plan on a camping-style setup rather than a hotel. This may improve the closer we get to departure. We are being sensitive to the lodging needs of those impacted by the storm.
Team Leaders: Jonathan Nasby and Drew Wisecup
What to Expect
This trip will be physical, unglamorous, and close to the ground, literally. We'll be sleeping like we're camping, working with our hands, and spending our days alongside families who are still sorting through what's left. It won't be comfortable every moment, but it will be meaningful. No special skills are required, just a willingness to work hard and serve well.
Would You Pray About Joining Us?
Before anything else, we're asking you to pray. Pray about whether God is calling you to be part of this team. Pray for the families in Lewis County who are still rebuilding. If you sense God stirring something in you, reach out to Jonathan Nasby or Drew Wisecup.
