JULY 30 | REVELATION 21:6-7

DAILY READING

Free For the Taking

By Judy Webb

This morning, while I write from my Panera office, I glance out the window and see two women praying before they eat their meal. Sites like this catch my eye, especially considering the day in which we now live. These happenings are rare but also uplifting. It seems that our world is so far gone, that when two women praying can grab my attention it deserves comment. I can recognize God is still in control and the reality is, that the Lord on our side, the Lord who knows all, who is all…

John, while on the isle of Patmos writes: He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” (Revelation 21:6-7 NLT)

It is done! These are powerful words of Jesus declaring from the cross that His work has been completed. He has equipped His disciples to carry on and to carry out His teaching and commands. What a privilege. The disciples then in turn, taught us to do the same. Acknowledging all the while, He is making all things new (Revelation 21:5) and giving us a fresh new start.

As our world closes in around us and troubles abound, we can be reminded of Romans 8:31. “If God is for us who can be against us”? Who indeed? Not to negate our troubles and daily concerns, but if I remember God’s power and concentrate on His unconditional love…the words who can be against us, is music to the ears.

“Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money. Come take your choice of wine or milk—it is all free!” (Isaiah 55:1 NLT)

God takes care of his children, and we are those children. And what is more, God offers all this to us for free. There is nothing we need to do to gain access to our inheritance, we are family; we are His children.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus,

It is such a blessing to be called Your children. When I truly believe this, everything changes. My dreams of tomorrow become real, and attainable. You desire to give good things to your children and we are blessed to receive them. Thank you. Amen.
