REFLECTION

Salvation is of the Lord

by Jennifer Jerrome

It’s human nature to gravitate to what’s easier; to want to hear only the good stuff and run from what makes us feel bad. When confronted with our poor choices and behaviors, a common response is to become defensive and cover our ears. We don’t want to admit we’re wrong or acknowledge our shortcomings. It’s much more fun to smile and live in denial.

But the easy way of life is fragile. There’s no solid foundation to secure us. Everything is quicksand beneath our feet.

What we need is repentance, rest, quietness, and trust. According to Isaiah, this is where our salvation and strength lie. It requires us to turn our lives over to Him because trying to save ourselves is futile.

The only way to a stable life is to accept the sovereignty of God. He was the only way for the Israelites, and He is the only way for us. Let’s not look anywhere else. For salvation is of the Lord and the sooner we recognize this the better. Only then will we stand on firm ground.

Father, thank you for using the words of Isaiah to remind us of your authority over all. Yours is not the easy path, but it is the right one. Give us the courage to say “No” to the temptations of the world and “Yes” to you. Amen.
