What is AWANA?
It’s an exciting, energetic, mini-VBS style club to reach boys and girls with the Gospel and train them to serve and love Christ. This fun-filled program features games, stories, songs, awards and more. A little like Scouting, children earn uniforms to wear to club and work at home with their families in workbooks to learn Bible verses and to complete activities. AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, from 2 Timothy 2:15. Find out more AWANA® International here.
Who is it for and when do we meet?
AWANA Clubs are for children age three through sixth grade. We meet on Wednesdays, 6:30-7:45 pm at Mill Run during the school year (September 5, 2012–May 8, 2013). We have three clubs:
• Cubbies for Preschoolers age 3-Pre Kindergarten*
• Sparks for Kindergarten-Grade 2
• Truth & Training (or T&T) for Grades 3-6
*Cubbies space is limited to the first 40 children on a first come first serve basis. Additional children will be placed on a waiting list.
Cubbie parents must be on site either volunteering for AWANA or attending a class.
What happens at an AWANA meeting?
Game Time, Council Time with songs and a Bible lesson, Handbook Time, when we recite verses we’ve learned. We have Theme Night every week, such as inside out night, crazy hair night, silly sock night and flashlight night. Download the Frequently Asked Questions here for details about the clubs, fees, scholarships and volunteering. Download the 2012-2013 Calendar and Themes here.
How do I register my child and what are the fees?
Dues are $25 to be prepaid for the year or $1/week. Uniform is $15. There is a different uniform for each club group (Cubbies, Sparks, T&T Ultimate Adventure, T&T Ultimate Challenge) and each uniform is usually worn for multiple years.
How can I help?
AWANA is run by volunteers and we need many willing adults and teens. Volunteers help with games, listen to children recite Bible verses, lead the songs and drama, help with set up and clean up, substitute, pray or assist with special events. Download the Volunteer Opportunities List here.
How can I sponsor a child in AWANA?
You can make a donation to sponsor one child for $40. This covers the dues, handbook and uniform. Make checks payable to UALC with "AWANA Scholarship" in the memo line.
