Worship Series

Learn more about Advent and the Church Calendar.

Hope. Christmas overflows with hope. There is hope for what we'll get for Christmas this year. Hope for how things will go at the family gathering. Hope that maybe this year you won't burn the turkey.

And there's the bigger stuff we hope about too: hope that the Christmas bonus comes through, hope that we—or the people we love—will still be here for Christmas next year, hope that maybe this year—in all the hustle of the season—we'll actually get the chance to experience the presence of Jesus.

So this year for Christmas, we will be talking about hope. We'll look at the Christmas story—this odd tale of a baby King—and we'll learn that the good news of the birth of Christ should fill us with hope. Along the way we'll learn along with the Biblical characters that we can hope because God keeps his promises, because God works in unexpected ways, because Jesus came to bring peace, and because Jesus came to bring the Kingdom.

Let's search the story and sing the songs together this Christmas season as we celebrate a newborn king and experience the thrill of hope!

Rejoice! Rejoice! (from O Come, O Come Emmanuel) – Lay Minister Joe Valentino
We have hope because God keeps His promises. (Jeremiah 33:10-16)

The Babe, the Son of Mary (from What Child is This) – Pastor Jeff Morlock
We have hope because God works in unexpected ways. (Luke 1:26-38)

Glory to the Newborn King! (from Hark the Herald Angels Sing) – Pastor Jeff Morlock, Pastor David White, Pastor Buff Delcamp, Aaron Thompson, and Pastor Brodie Taphorn
We have hope because Jesus came to bring peace. (Luke 2:1-20)

King Forever, Ceasing Never (from We Three Kings) – Lay Minister Joe Valentino and Pastor David White
We have hope because Jesus came to bring the Kingdom. (Matthew 2:1-12)

Advent Devotionals

Advent DevotionalsJoin the congregation for the next church-wide devotional during the season of Advent. Devotional books are available at Mill Run and Lytham Road for $5. You can also follow along for free on our Daily Bible Blast.

Twenty-three individuals contributed to this devotional, and we are absolutely thrilled to provide you with this resource for the Advent season. You'll find reflections, applications, and questions for adults and families to dive deep into the hope found in Jesus as we celebrate Advent together. Through the devotional—and in our worship services—you'll also have an opportunity to follow along with us as we light Advent candles together. You can purchase the devotionals in the lobby for $5, and if you don't have an Advent wreath or need some new candles this year, you can purchase a variety of wreaths in the lobby as well.

Other Resources

One way you can expand your participation during the Advent season—whether you intend to participate with your family or on your own—is to pick up an Advent wreath and candles. You can find a limited number of them in the lobby! Also, below you'll find an Advent Spotify playlist and weekly Instagram posts for you to follow. As you walk with God this Advent season, please share it with us! On social media, just tag posts with #ualcthrillofhope to share!
